Since the options are given in sec. we have to convert the speed of the train in terms of m/s.

Speed of the train = 30 km/hr = 30 x (5/18) = 25/3 (m/s)

So, the train passes 25 meters in 3 seconds (From the above equation).

Therefore, the train will pass 100 meters in 4 x 3 = 12 sec.

3. A train running at the speed of 60 km/hr crosses a pole in 9 seconds. What is the length of the train?

A. 120 metres

B. 150 metres

C. 180 metres

Since the options are in meters, we will convert km/hr into m/s.

So, 60 km/hr = 60 x (5/18) = 50/3 (m/s)

Since the train crosses the pole in 9 sec, with the help of above result,

( 3 sec --> 50 meters, therefore 9 sec --> 150 meters) the length of the train will be 150 meters.

4. A train 240 m long passes a pole in 24 seconds. How long will it take to pass a platform 650 m long?

A. 65 sec

B. 89 sec

Speed of the train = distance or length of train / time

Speed = 240 / 24 = 10 (m/s)

Please note that when a train crosses a pole, it crosses with the distance of itself.

So, the total distance will be equal to length of platform + length of train

Total distance = 240 + 650 = 890 meters.

Total time taken = distance / speed = 890 / 10 = 89 sec

5. A train of length 150 metres takes 40.5 seconds to cross a tunnel of length 300 metres. What is the speed of the train in km/hr?

Speed = Distance/time

Total distance travelled by the train = tunnel length + train length itself.

ஃTotal distance = 450 meters.

time= 40.5 sec.

Hence, Speed of the train = 450 / 40.5 = 11. 11 m/s

Converting to km/hr = 11.11 x (18/5) ≈40
